Publicis Groupe snags HP's PC account overseas

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has tapped Publicis Groupe to handle its above-the-line communications for its Geneva-based personal systems group (PSG) in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The PSG account was previously handled by McCann Erickson. BBDO, Y&R and McCann also were vying for the account.
 

Colloquy: Loyalty membership up, activity not

While consumer membership in loyalty programs has grown, active participation in such programs is slack, according to Colloquy's 2009 Loyalty Census. Membership in loyalty rewards programs in the US has reached a high of 1.808 billion — a 24% jump since Colloquy's last census in 2007.

BBDO Toronto has been named AOR for Mercedes-Benz Canada's Smart brand, following a three-agency RFP. All three agencies competing for the account had worked with Mercedes-Benz Canada before. BBDO Toronto has been the AOR for above-the-line work for Mercedes-Benz Canada since early 2008, but has never worked on the Smart cars.
 

Publicis Groupe acquires Swiss digital agency

Global communications firm Publicis Groupe has acquired Nemos, a Zurich-based digital agency that focuses on multimedia and Flash programming. The agency will be integrated into Publicis Modem Switzerland and aligned with Publicis Modem, Publicis Worldwide's digital branch.
 

Chick-fil-A partnering with BrightWave Marketing on e-mail

In its next e-mail marketing message, which will be sent next month, fast food chain Chick-fil-A will promote the rollout of a new peach milkshake flavor that will be available for a limited time. Airmiles, the rewards program owned by British Airways, is launching a new company devoted to managing white label loyalty programs for other businesses. The Mileage Company, which went public this week, will run the existing Airmiles program and British Airways' frequent flier program, BA Miles. It has yet to announce any other clients, but expects to begin developing or managing other frequent flier and rewards programs within the year.
 

Majestic Realty Co. partners with Microsoft and ExactTarget

Commercial real estate developer Majestic Realty Co. is expanding its e-mail program with a new partnership with three technology services companies: Microsoft, ExactTarget and Neudesic. The relationship is being led by Microsoft. Majestic Realty is using Microsoft's Dynamics CRM 4.0 product to create and track campaigns, Exact Target's e-mail platform and Neudesic's implementation consulting services.

Microsoft has consolidated all of its DM business, and as of July 1, Wunderman will be its global AOR for relationship marketing. Previously the marketing initiatives had been split between Wunderman and MRM, part of Interpublic's McCann Worldgroup.
 

EBay sells off StumbleUpon, plans to sell Skype

Online auction site eBay this week sold recommendation engine StumbleUpon, which it purchased two years ago for $75 million. EBay sold StumbleUpon back to its founders, Garrett Camp and Geoff Smith, as well as a group of venture capital investors, including Sherpalo Ventures, Accel Partners and August Capita.
 

Paid search down 14% in January, up 11% in March: SearchIgnite

After declines in January and February, paid search marketing spend was up 11% in March according to the latest quarterly SearchIgnite report on the state of search. Additionally, while consumers are still making online purchases, the average conversion time has grown significantly. The time between when a consumer clicks an ad and when they make a purchase on the marketer's site has increased 32.4% year over year.
 

NHL Tweetup events to be held in 21 cities tomorrow

Tomorrow night, NHL fans in 21 cities in the US and Canada will be able to participate in the first-ever NHL Tweetup and mark the beginning of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. A Tweetup is a real-world meeting between people who know each other through the popular microblogging site Twitter.
 

iCrossing partners with Russian search agency
