Nike is promoting its annual Human Race series of 10K races, which take place October 24, by calling consumers to run in the races via a viral e-mail campaign with user-generated video. The goal of the campaign, which began in mid-September, is to increase registration for the Nike race.
 

Porsche debuts integrated campaign to promote the Panamera sports car

To introduce its new four-seat sports car, the Panamera, Porsche Cars North America is running an integrated effort designed to expand the company's audience beyond sports car fans and to reach luxury car drivers. The multichannel effort, "Welcome to the Family," was created by Porsche's agency of record Cramer-Krasselt Chicago with the goal of retaining existing customers and acquiring new ones.
 

Mattel launches e-commerce portal for various brands

Toy manufacturer Mattel has launched MattelShop.com, which has, in addition to traditional e-commerce features, social shopping tools and real-time updated content. Previously, Mattel brands like American Girl, Fisher-Price and Barbie Collector had their own e-commerce portals. This is the first time all of Mattel's brands are sold on one e-commerce site.
 

Amazon Payments extended to non-profits

Amazon.com has expanded its Amazon Payments solution to nonprofits, allowing consumers to make donations to participating groups using their accounts with the Web merchant. The American Red Cross, UNICEF, Greenpeace, The Nature Conservancy, Feeding America and Children's Miracle Network are among the organizations accepting donations via Amazon Payments on their Web sites.
 

UPS 3Q revenue drops nearly 15%

UPS on October 22 reported revenues of $11.2 billion for this year's third quarter, a year-over-year decline of 14.9% from last year's $13.1 billion. The shipper also saw its average volume per day drop 3.9% from 14.9 million packages to 14.3 million. Operating profit during the third quarter dropped to $929 million from $1.63 billion last year, a decrease of 43%.

NBA launches effort to attract US Hispanics

In an effort to broaden its appeal to Hispanic audiences, The National Basketball Association launched Éne-bé-a, a multichannel marketing campaign. The league is using national TV, radio and online advertising, in addition to a Web site, events, merchandise promotion and grassroots programs. This is also the first time the NBA has launched a database-building initiative specifically for its Latino audience.
 

Lazarus inducted into DMA Hall of Fame

Shelly Lazarus, chairwoman of Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide, became the latest industry luminary to be inducted into the Direct Marketing Association's Hall of Fame. Lazarus was honored by the association on October 20 at its annual conference in San Diego. It is the second time the group has honored Lazarus. DMA named her Woman of the Year in 2002.
 

Hickory Springs launches eco-friendly social marketing effort

Outdoor products multichannel retailer Cabela's has partnered with CHS, an energy, grains and food company, to launch a credit-card and loyalty program for CHS' Cenex brand, a wholesaler and retailer of refined fuels. This is the first card Cabela's credit card division, World's Foremost Bank, has created with another retailer. The companies announced the partnership on October 20.
 

After dispute, eFashionSolutions to continue to manage Playboy's online business

Playboy Enterprises and e-commerce and catalog service provider eFashionSolutions have settled a dispute over the operation of Playboy's e-commerce and catalog businesses. The companies announced the deal on October 20. EFashionSolutions said in a statement that it will continue to manage the e-commerce operations of Playboy's retail brands ShopTheBunny.com and PlayboyStore.com.

LoyaltyOne nabs stake in Brazilian loyalty firm

Alliance Data-owned company LoyaltyOne has acquired a 29% stake in CBSM, Companhia Brasileria De Servicos De Marketing, which operates Brazil-based loyalty program Dotz. Terms of the agreement, which was signed in early October, were not disclosed.

However, analyst Dave Frankland, the report's author, expects that to improve.
