Ad spending to stabilize in 2010, online to lead the way

Advertising spending forecasts for next year represent the first glimmer of hope that the ad market will finally stabilize after an unprecedented downturn. Three leading industry prognosticators weighed in with predictions for next year: ZenithOptimedia said advertising spending will grow globally by 0.9% in 2010 to nearly $448 billion; GroupM predicted similar growth (0.8%) to $448 billion; and Magna Global had a more optimistic prediction of a 6% global advertising increase to $380 billion.
 

InfoGroup launches b-to-b data product

Database marketing giant InfoGroup announced on December 7 it has launched a co-operative database called the B2B DataWarehouse. The new product combines information, such as business executives' postal, telephone and e-mail contact information, from several different lists.
 

Health and Human Services Department seeks direct mail, branding help

The US Department of Health and Human Services is searching for a firm to provide direct mail, branding and design services for a National Institute of Health communications office. The winning firm will work with the agency's National Library of Medicine Office of Communications and Public Liaison.
 

Wehrs steps down as global CEO, president of Mobile Marketing Association

After a year in the position, Mike Wehrs, the Mobile Marketing Association's global CEO and president, will resign effective December 31. He will serve as special adviser to the MMA Global Executive Committee until June 30, 2010. Rio de Janiero-based Federico Pisani Massamormile, MMA global chairman, will serve as interim CEO.
 

Gaming site PKR.com picks Unica to improve e-mail program

PKR.com, a poker Web site, is working with interactive marketing company Unica on its international e-mail program. The site is implementing Unica's software into its technology system, a process expected to be complete by early next year. PKR.com uses e-mail for retention purposes, specifically to encourage customers to return to the site and play more.
 

Carnival names Borden VP, customer marketing

Rob Borden joined Carnival Cruise Lines as VP of customer marketing on December 7. He is overseeing the company's direct and e-mail marketing efforts, including its loyalty programs and co-branded credit card. Those efforts are designed to grow ticket and onboard revenues across all distribution channels, according to a statement from Carnival.
 

Fortunoff awards SMS list management

Specialists Marketing Services announced December 8 that Fortunoff awarded it management of its in-house list. The file is mostly married female homeowners between ages 35 and 44 with income above $150,000.
