E-commerce service provider Digital River is eliminating 120 positions globally as part of a realignment that will see the outsourcing of its customer service operations and growth in its product development and sales areas. "This is not a downsizing," said Ed Merritt, VP, investor relations at Digital River. By contracting with outsourcing provider Sitel to manage its customer e-mail and phone inquiries beginning September, "the level of service provided to customers will be better than we can provide," said Merritt.
 

Harte-Hanks brings new talent into Shoppers business

Harte-Hanks made a pair of recent hires to its Shoppers business as it looks to build synergy between its print strategy and its online and mobile marketing. So Young Park has been named VP, marketing for PennySaverUSA.com and will oversee brand and consumer marketing for PennySaverUSA's network of sites. Doug Williams has been named VP, e-commerce for PennySaverUSA.com and will oversee online sales, b-to-b partnerships and advertising products.

Direct Group forms unit to handle data breach-related communications

Direct marketing services provider Direct Group has formed a new Compliance & Critical Communications business unit, which will help clients plan for and execute compliance communications in response to data breaches involving identity- or privacy-related information. Direct Group reports that the number of data breaches increased 47% in 2008, as tallied by the Identity Theft Resource Center, with a total of 656 reported breaches compared to 446 in 2007.
 

Harte-Hanks adds IT data to Demandbase platform

Demandbase, a SaaS database marketing platform, has added Harte-Hanks' Market Intelligence Technology Database to its offering. Harte-Hanks' data, which includes IT professionals and business decision makers from about 600,000 companies, is collected and verified through telephone and Web-based interviews. Including 325,000 names from the Harte-Hanks data, Demandbase is adding 3 million new business contacts to its database.
 

Qdoba adds mobile to loyalty efforts with rewards program
