J. Crew Group Inc. has eliminated 95 positions, primarily in its New York offices and support functions in the field and distribution centers. The move was taken as part of a cost reduction program revealed today that is expected generate approximately $40 million in annual pre-tax savings.

President Barack Obama has nominated Federal Trade Commission member Jon Leibowitz as the agency's chairperson. Leibowitz, a lawyer, joined the commission in September 2004, and previously was VP of Congressional Affairs for the Motion Picture Association of America.
 

New York Times trims inserts

The New York Times Co. is trimming production of its T magazine. The insert, which launched in 2004, grew tremendously in both frequency and ad pages through 2007, when it started publishing 15 annual issues. In 2009, however, that number will drop to 13 issues.
 

Expedia launches PassportAds to target in-market travelers online

Expedia Media Solutions, the ad sales division of online travel company Expedia, has launched a new behavioral targeting product, PassportAds, which anonymously identifies in-market travelers through their search behavior. The announcement was made Thursday at the OMMA Behavioral conference in New York.

The multimedia campaign featured TV spots and print ads all designed to show consumers all of the things in their life they could "fold" into their Vodaphone device, including maps, music, television and the Web.

Williams-Sonoma Inc. recently reported that net revenues for the eight-week period ended Decem­ber 28 dropped 22.6% while comparable store sales decreased 24.2%.
