In a letter to a key House subcommittee chairman, US Postmaster General John Potter again pressed his case for Congressional action on proposed legislation that would reduce the agency's out-of-pocket costs for retiree health benefits, which could save the US Postal Service $2 billion this year.

R.R. Donnelley & Sons Co. reported net sales for the first quarter ended March 31 totaled $2.5 billion, an 18.1% decrease from the first quarter of 2008. The sales drop included a 3.5% negative impact from changes in foreign exchange rates and volume declines across substantially all product lines, as well as continued price pressure.
 

Mintel survey: Credit card use dropping

Debit cards are trumping credit cards in light of the recession, while more than a fifth of Americans (22%) are leaving both in the wallet, according to a new consumer survey from market research firm Mintel Comperemedia. Nearly half (43%) of those surveyed say they are relying more on their debit cards and using credit cards less because of the recession.

Grocery chain Winn-Dixie Stores is expanding its Teradata data warehouse in an effort to improve its use of data and analytics in marketing. Winn-Dixie will add additional subject matter areas to its Teradata Enterprise Data Warehouse, which currently houses multiple terabytes of data that Winn-Dixie uses for merchandising, supply chain and marketing analytics.
