In a move that will give Amazon.com a greater command of the apparel and footwear e-commerce vertical, the Seattle-based e-commerce firm has agreed to acquire e-commerce site Zappos.com in a stock exchange transaction.

Inserts drive traffic to Web, UK study says

Recent research from UK-based Direct Marketing Association's Inserts Council — the print alternative media shows that an average of 52% of responses to inserts went online. The research, which is the first of its kind, measured the percentage of insert responses which go online and how this differs by client sector and magazine type. The results were taken from more than four million inserts sent out by a pool of five clients representing diverse industry sectors.
 

Food Network expands borders, rate base and campaign

Food Network brand continued its multichannel outreach efforts this week, launching a Food Network Canada mobile app for Blackberry and announcing another rate base hike for its eponymous magazine. With its January/February 2010 issue, Food Network Magazine will increase its rate base to 1 million copies. The glossy, published in partnership with Hearst Magazines, officially launched last month with a rate base of 400,000.
 

Children's clothing buyer's list debuts

Portuguese children's clothing maker Papo d'Anjo, a subsidiary of Endicott Catalog and Web Sales, released its buyers names in a list available through RMI Direct. The 12,000 two-year buyers are sophisticated, affluent and discerning parents who have purchased hand-crafted European styled clothing through its e-commerce Web site or catalog.
