Pitney Bowes' chief strategy officer to lead new enterprise solutions group

Pitney Bowes Inc. has appointed David Dobson EVP and president of Pitney Bowes management services, which provides outsourced mail and document management services to large corporations, law firms, universities and government agencies. Dobson will also lead the development of an enterprise sales and solutions group that will work with enterprise customers on delivering solutions that leverage the breadth of Pitney Bowes' products and services.

Two magazines that shuttered earlier this year are making comebacks with a digital focus: Vibe, under new ownership, will relaunch in print and online this Fall, while Condé Nast's Portfolio has reopened as a Web-only venture owned by American City Business Journals (ACBJ).
 

JCPenney reports Q2 loss

JCPenney Company Inc. reported sales for the second quarter ended August 1 decreased 7.9% for a total of $3.9 billion. Same-store sales decreased 9.5% during the same period. The company also reported a loss of $1 million for the quarter versus income of $117 million last year. Second quarter earnings broke even, compared to a gain of $0.52 per share last year.

While the recent Red Sox-Yankees series results were depressing for me and other Sox fans, it did give me an excuse to check out the newly built Yankee Stadium for the first time. The Online Publishers Association threw down the gauntlet with a study released August 13 that questions the advertising effectiveness of ad networks and portals. As one ad network executive, Burst Media CEO Jarvis Coffin, put it, OPA "opted to set fire to the forest floor that ... scorched the effectiveness of the entire Internet as a brand medium save for its 50, or so, members."

In the "Normal vs. Boring" campaign, the computer maker took its first dive into user-generated content.
