Last week Safeway became the latest grocery chain to partner with Cellfire, offering the latter's digital couponing service as part of its ever-expanding CRM efforts. One of the nation's largest grocery chains, Safeway is a front runner in the loyalty program arms race that is pushing the industry to test new strategies and technologies to woo today's budget- and time-conscious consumers.
 

Bausch & Lomb eyes 25- to 34-year-olds with multimillion dollar online push

Bausch & Lomb announced the kickoff of a multimillion dollar online marketing campaign to promote the US launch of its SofLens daily disposable contact lenses to 25- to 34-year-old consumers. Campaign elements include banner ads, paid search, site sponsorships, content partnerships and a dedicated microsite. Digital Pulp handled the creative, and Ionic Media handled media.
 

Design Within Reach seeks NASDAQ delisting

Multichannel home furnishings merchant Design Within Reach Inc. has notified the NASDAQ Stock Market of its intent to voluntarily delist its common stock from NASDAQ. While the company reports that it has not received a formal notice from NASDAQ that it has failed to comply with listing standards, Design Within Reach said in a statement that it has struggled to maintain compliance with NASDAQ's minimum required bid price of $1 per share.
 

Powell's Books credits 70% open rate jump to personalized e-mail

Powell's Books, one of the nation's largest booksellers, has reported an increase in e-mail open rate thanks to its new focus on personalization. The Portland, OR-based retailer began an e-mail effort with ExactTarget that targets customers based on their favorite kinds of books. The effort began in February, and the most recent mailing in June saw a 70% increase in open rates.
