Creative Jam interview: AXA's Barbara Goodstein on risk

Mary Elizabeth Hurn March 19, 2009

Brands can — and should — take creative risks, said Barbara Goodstein, chief innovation officer and EVP of marketing for AXA Equitable, at today's DMNews Creative Jam, citing her company's use of an 800-pound gorilla to increase brand awareness. Goodstein was interviewed by DMNews editor-in-chief Cara Wood at the Jam, which is part of the John Caples International Awards, and drew from her experience with the insurance firm to talk about risk.

Creative Jam panel: All marketing is a risk

Mary Elizabeth Hurn March 19, 2009

Everything one does in marketing is a risk — including repeating something successfully done, Nick Moore, EVP and chief creative officer of Wunderman New York, told an audience during a panel discussion at Thursday's DMNews Creative Jam in New York. Moore was part of a creative agency forum on the importance of risk, which was moderated by DMNews' editorial director Julia Hood and also included Duncan Gray, executive creative director of Proximity London, and Holly Pavlika, executive creative director of Big Fuel.

For a traditional print directory business like the New Zealand Yellow Pages, the iPhone might be the last thing that you want your customers to think about. Risky business at the DMNews Creative Jam

Lauren Bell    March 19, 2009

"Risk" was the word of the day at the DMNews Creative Jam today — used by everyone from keynote speakers to roundtable participants. This particular roundtable participant was no exception. I sat in on a Creative Jam Session moderated by John Palisay, VP and creative director, Draftfcb.

Finding the big idea

Dianna Dilworth    March 19, 2009

The big idea is not determined by big money, according to the ad executives that I spoke with at the Caples Creative Jam round table sessions today. No, a big idea can come from anywhere. For Spanish agency Shackleton Madrid, when an RFP comes in, people from each dicipline get involved in the brainstorming sessions before applying an idea to their specific area of expertise.

Creative Jam highlights

Sharon Goldman    March 19, 2009

Great space, great food, great conversation, great content — all were part of the Creative Jam today (IMHO, of course). Highlights for me: Barbara Goodstein's keynote on the AXA Equitable 800-pound gorilla campaign — we've covered it in DMNews before but I was still impressed by the level of attention to measurement this company gives this integrated campaign.
