Location-based app Shopkick launches with Best Buy, Macy's

Shopkick, a location-based shopping app that allows consumers to earn rewards and discounts at retail outlets, launched August 17. The service has partnered with Best Buy, Macy's, American Eagle Outfitters and Sports Authority for rewards programs.
 

IBM to acquire Unica for $480 million

Waltham, MA-based Unica has more than 1,500 clients, including Best Buy, eBay and ING. Its 500 employees will be integrated into IBM's software solution group. Earlier this year, Unica acquired Pivotal Veracity, an e-mail deliverability and optimization firm, for $17.8 million.
 

Pizza Hut launches 'If I Can Dream' contest to engage Millenials

Pizza Hut launched a sweepstakes and instant win game August 16 for the 'If I Can Dream' web series in an effort to engage younger audiences. The restaurant chain worked with its digital agency of record IMC2 on the effort.
 

National Geographic Society deploys e-mail campaign encouraging Facebook 'likes'

The National Geographic Society will launch an e-mail marketing campaign this month, incorporating a Facebook 'like' button, to support its feature documentary 'Restrepo.' The nonprofit worked with marketing firm Epsilon on the campaign, which will launch by next week.
