RR Donnelley closes two plants, lays off close to 500

R.R. Donnelley & Sons is shutting down two printing plants and laying off the employees who work there, according to recent reports in the Chicago Tribune and the Associated Press.Attempts to contact R.R. Donnelley via e-mail and telephone were unsuccessful. In light of the current economic conditions and the toll they are taking on the company's financial results, R.R. Donnelley is permanently shutting down its printing facility in Hillside, IL, according to the Chicago Tribune. All 118 people employed there are being let go.
 

Touchstone's February catalog was its last

Facing an uncertain economy and a dwindling universe of names for its acquisition efforts, cataloger Touchstone has made the decision to shut down. The last issue of the quarterly home décor book was mailed on February 25, and live orders will continue to be taken until the end of April. Sarah Luce, a former commercial interior designer, founded Touchstone in 1989. Its customers are mostly women 55 years who are interested in traditional home furnishings.
 

Smith Brothers named interactive AOR for Dreyer's ice cream snacks

Dreyer's frozen ice cream snack division has named independent marketing agency Smith Brothers Agency as its interactive agency of record. The work will include online marketing creative development, strategic planning, e-mail marketing and campaign development with the goal of increasing the division's brands online presence and enabling them to connect with consumers in more relevant ways.
 

Datran Media founder to depart, as company employs growth strategy

The changes are a part of the company's strategy to grow the business from a start-up to a larger enterprise business, the objective that was at play when Datran chairman/CEO Patrick Vogt joined this past fall.
 

Universal Music partners with teen site for video distribution

Universal Music Group (UMG) has formed a partnership with Kiwibox, a social networking site and weekly online magazine for teens. Under the agreement, more than 5,000 of UMG's full-length music videos will be available in Kiwibox Music Videos. The partnership creates branding and sponsorship opportunities for advertisers looking to reach Kiwibox's 2.4 million registered teen members.
 

Ping Mobile partners with Myxer

The multimedia campaign featured TV spots and print ads all designed to show consumers all of the things in their life they could "fold" into their Vodaphone device, including maps, music, television and the Web.
