Marketing services provider Vertis Communications announced that Quincy L. Allen, longtime executive of Xerox Corporation, has been appointed chief executive officer, effective April 6.
 

Ogilvy named an AOR for UnitedHealthcare

Ogilvy New York has been named advertising AOR for UnitedHealthcare. Ogilvy was one of four finalists in the review, conducted by Select Resources, an Ogilvy spokesperson said. The other finalists were not named. Deutsch LA previously handled the account.
 

Comcast usernames found on file-sharing site

Comcast is doing some clean-up work this week on a recently discovered data breach. An initial list of 8,000 Comcast usernames and passwords was unearthed over the weekend on the document-sharing Web site Scribd. Comcast was alerted to the list Monday and immediately had it pulled down for analysis, said Charlie Douglas, director of communications for Comcast's high-speed Internet product. The company is now working with "the proper authorities" to investigate the leak.

Dell is taking on Apple with a new computer that is aimed at "style-minded people." The Adamo, Latin for, "to fall in love," is a PC competitor to Apple's MacBook Air, a lightweight laptop positioned by its design. To promote the new product, Dell enlisted the help of British photographer Nadav Kander to shoot images of the computer as a fashion accessory.
 

LookSmart partners with Anchor Intelligence to measure click validity

Search ad network LookSmart has formed a partnership with Anchor Intelligence, which monitors online traffic quality. Under the partnership, all clicks generated by LookSmart and its clients will be now be scored by Anchor's ClearMark technology which, in real time, determines the probability that any given click is fraudulent. That data is then given to clients and publishers so that they're only paying for high quality traffic.

Comcast is doing some clean-up work this week on a recently discovered data breach. An initial list of 8,000 Comcast usernames and passwords was unearthed over the weekend on the document-sharing Web site Scribd. Merkle lays off 36

Database marketing agency Merkle Inc. laid off a total of 36 employees, two last week and 34 this week, according to a company spokesperson. A large number of those let go were from the account management side of the business assigned to financial services clients.

InfoGroup amends '08 earnings report

InfoGroup released an amended yearly earnings report to the SEC for 2008, which reduced its total income due to administrative expenses related to shareholder litigation last year. The company reported operating income for 2008 of $28.2 million, or 4% of net sales, down from $86.5 million, or 13% of net sales, for 2007. The primary reason for the decrease in operating income was the result of $34.3 million in non-recurring charges incurred during 2008 related to a Special Litigation Committee's investigation brought on by a shareholder lawsuit.
