Cabela's names new CEO and president

Outdoors products multichannel merchant Cabela's Inc. has named Thomas Millner CEO, president and a member of the board, effective April 6. Millner succeeds Dennis Highby, who will become vice chairman of the board. Millner is the former CEO of Freedom Group Inc., the parent company of Remington Arms Co. Inc., one of Cabela's vendors.
 

Honda debuts integrated campaign for new hybrid car

Honda has kicked off a new multichannel marketing campaign to support the debut of its new car, the Honda Insight. The car is being positioned as an affordable hybrid, and the messaging supports this with the tagline "hybrid for everyone." The creative is clean and straight forward to help push this down-to-earth image. This strategy was developed by Honda's agency of record, RPA.
 

Budgets steady, channels shifting: CMO council study

Despite the economic downturn, nearly half of all CMOs (54.1%) say their company's budget would stay the same or increase in 2009, according to the newly released Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) Council's Marketing Outlook 2009. However, their overall marketing mix is shifting, the study said. "Senior marketers are looking to hold budgets steady and not make tremendous cuts in headcounts," said Liz Miller, the council's VP of programming and operations.
 

DMA releases quarterly business review

Direct marketers have seen profitability marginally increase in the fourth quarter of 2008, according to the Direct Marketing Association's Quarterly Business Review. In the QBR Index, scores below 50 represent a decline in direct marketing business performance during the quarter versus the same quarter last year, while a score of 50 represents no change and scores above 50 represent growth.

Following in the steps of a similarly themed promotion from car manufacturer Hyundai, multichannel men's clothing merchant JoS. A. Bank Clothiers Inc. has launched a new promotion promising to refund the price of a suit if the purchaser loses his job. With consumer confidence at record low levels in the current recession, marketers are using this type of hand-holding promotion to help provide consumers with the assurance they need to spend money.
