DMA takes stand against FCC claim in mobile porting

The Direct Marketing Association has filed comments with the Federal Communications Commission regarding the Petition for Expedited Clarification and Declaratory Ruling, filed by Paul D.S. Edwards, president/CEO, of the Consumer Information Center Inc. The DMA's comments address how the "porting" of a customer's telephone numbers from landlines to mobile affects the ability of marketers to contact those customers.
 

Rumored Google, Twitter merge could be good for marketers

There's been a serious back and forth in the rumor mill this week regarding a Google buyout of Twitter. Last year Twitter turned down a buyout offer from Facebook for $500 million, mostly in stock. While no announcements have been made, there has been much talk across the industry as to why an acquisition would be good for Google, Twitter and marketers alike.
 

Hispanic business owners targeted with new DM campaign

The Latino Coalition (TLC), a non-profit focused on helping small business owners of Latino descent, has tapped Image Direct for a new direct marketing campaign. Image Direct was chosen for the work partly due to their successes in working with the US Small Business Administration. The campaign, called ExitoUSA, will launch at the end of this month and will target 1 million Hispanic small business owners annually through weekly mailings of 20,000.
 

Nonprofits not capturing as many donations online as they could

People would be willing to give more money to charities via online donations if it were easier for them to find crucial information, according to a new study from user-experience research firm Nielsen Norman Group. Only 43% of the Web sites studied put their mission on their homepage, and only 4% stated on the homepage where the donor's money would be applied, according to the study

SF leads California Do Not Mail push

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has approved a non-binding resolution last week calling on the state of California and Congress to create a Do No Mail registry — the first time lawmakers in the US have voted on creating a policy to allow citizens to block receiving unsolicited mail. No states have yet passed any kind of Do Not Mail legislation, although several have measures pending, and it is unclear whether the California state legislature will take up the issue.
