PayPal opens up platform to developers

EBay company and alternative payment option PayPal has announced plans to open its platform to third-party developers, allowing them to embed the PayPal payment system into their applications and platforms. "Until now, developer innovation has been stifled by the barriers payment systems impose," said Scott Thompson, president of PayPal, in a statement.
 

UPS Q2 revenue dips nearly 17%

International shipping company UPS reported a 16.7% decline in revenue to $10.83 billion for its second quarter ending June 30, down from $13 billion in Q2 2008. Price reduction due to lower fuel charges, as well as the global recession, were cited as the root causes for the company's under performance.
 

Valassis awarded $300 million in suit against News America Marketing

Media and marketing services company Valassis has been awarded $300 million for compensatory damages in its lawsuit against News America Marketing, a subsidiary of News Corporation. Valassis originally filed the action in the State of Michigan Wayne County Circuit Court on March 9, 2007, claiming unfair competition and tortious interference by News America Marketing. The jury's verdict found News America Marketing liable for both counts.
