If there is anything sacred to the Internet marketer, it is the search engine results page for key terms. As paid search, display and e-mail campaigns come and go, organic search results are earned over time, and worn like stripes in a monthly position analysis report.
A recent SearchIgnite report reveals that retail search spend has grown in anticipation of fourth quarter holiday sales. Year over year, multi-channel retailers have increased their US search spend by 33% so far in Q4 2008, compared with spending at this time last year.
T-Mobile USA and Yahoo have partnered for a mobile search deal. As of today, Yahoo OneSearch will power mobile Internet searches made through T-Mobile's new Web2goSM service.This new offering will increase the inventory for Yahoo's mobile search engine, as well as for display ads.
Online local guide Citysearch has released its new version of Citysearch.com with improved local, social and mobile aspects. The company, an operating business of IAC, is expanding its coverage from 140 local city guides to over 75,000 cities and neighborhoods nationwide.
Jerry Yang, Yahoo's co-founder, is resigning his post as CEO pending his successor's appointment. He will return to his former role, "Chief Yahoo," and will remain on the board of directors. Yang took on the position in June 2007 at the board's request.
Analysis and user profiling is not a new concept within consumer advertising, but the major search engine companies have upped the ante so that this practice now presents a very different and far more serious threat toward consumer privacy than ever before.
