RR Donnelley makes offer for Quebecor World

RR Donnelley & Sons has expressed interest in acquiring all or substantially all of Quebecor World's assets and properties, and is offering to pay Quebecor debtors approximately $957 million cash and 30 million shares, valued at $394 million as of the closing price on May 11.
 

Systemax wins Circuit City's online business at auction

Systemax Inc. won Circuit City's e-commerce business at an auction held this week, subject to court approval. Last month, multichannel electronics merchant Systemax entered a stalking horse agreement valued at $6.5 million with Circuit City, which began liquidating assets in January after filing for bankruptcy protection in November.
 

Autotrader.com switches to Microsoft Dynamics CRM

Auto classifieds Web site Autotrader.com has signed Microsoft Dynamics CRM to provide customer relationship management tools, replacing the site's legacy CRM software. Microsoft Dynamics CRM, which is already used by some of Autotrader's sister companies, was chosen after the company reviewed various off-the shelf tools and its own legacy system.
 

Publishers continue to grow digital output

Digital initiatives continue to gain traction among traditional print publishers — and among readers — according to new research from the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA). The MPA reports that consumer magazines released 76 new digital initiatives in the first quarter of 2009 — 10% more than in Q1 last year.

On February 9, the Federal Trade Commission issued a staff report defining "negative option marketing" broadly as a "category of commercial transactions in which sellers interpret a customer's failure to take an affirmative action, either to reject an offer or cancel an agreement, as assent to be charged for goods or services." FTC staff identified five principles to guide online marketers in complying with Section 5 of the FTC Act.

Earlier this month, data services firm Omniture and ad network 24/7 Real Media formed a strategic partnership with these and other publishers to track visitor site behavior and tie this information into their display ads.
