Survey: Coupons, sales strong influence on BTS shopping so far

The average American family had completed only 41.6% of its back-to-school shopping as of August 11, according to the National Retail Federation's latest Back-to-School/College Consumers Intentions and Actions survey. The survey, which was conducted by BIGresearch, polled 8,543 consumers from August 4-11. Families of college students had completed 41% of their shopping by early August and 30.5% of families with school-aged children hadn't even started their shopping.
 

Three men arrested in largest-ever data breach

Three men were indicted in New Jersey on August 17 for stealing more than 130 million credit and debit card numbers, according to the US Department of Justice. It is the largest hacking and identity theft case ever prosecuted by the Justice Department.
 

Sears launches Christmas Club card

Sears Holdings Corp. has introduced the Sears and Kmart Christmas Club gift card program, which allows consumers to save ahead for their holiday purchases at Sears and Kmart stores or online at either merchant's Web site. Consumers who sign up before October 31 can earn up to a 3% reward, up to a maximum of $100, based on upon the stored value on their cards as of November 14.

Jiffy Lube is looking to build customer loyalty with a new rewards program it launched at the beginning of the month. The first loyalty program from the quick-service auto shop tracks customer visits and rewards regularly returning clients with free services and discounts
