EBay sells Skype to private investors

EBay has signed a definitive agreement to sell its Skype communications unit to an investor group led by Silver Lake. Under the terms of the deal, eBay will receive approximately $1.9 billion in cash, a note from the buyer group for $125 million. It will retain approximately a 35% equity investment in Skype. EBay said the deal values Skype at $2.75 billion. The deal is expected to close in the fourth quarter.
 

Merkle appoints chief strategy officer for healthcare

Database marketing agency Merkle has appointed VP Pete Mehr, Ph.D., chief strategy officer for its healthcare marketing practice, which launched earlier this year. Mehr's responsibilities will include developing and overseeing the execution of physician relationship and consumer/patient relationship marketing programs.
 

E.L.F. expands relationship with eWay to include social capabilities

E.L.F. Cosmetics has tapped eWayDirect, already its e-mail vendor, to power its upcoming e.l.f. Beauty Network social initiative, which will launch later this year. The site is built on EWayDirect's Direct/Connect 4.0 social media platform.
