Epsilon: Q2 marketing e-mail opens up 18% over 2008

Marketing e-mail open rates were up 18.2% year-over-year for the second quarter, according to a report by Epsilon that was released October 6. The period was the fourth consecutive one that open rates increased. Fourteen out of 16 industries measured saw a jump in opens, with pharmaceuticals and financial services seeing the greatest growth, with 6.3% and 7.2% year-over-year rises, respectively.
 

Amazon debuts mobile payment option

Amazon Payments LLC, an Amazon.com company, released a mobile payment system on October 5. Amazon Mobile Payments Service lets the company's merchants process transactions via mobile phone and allows consumers to check out using Amazon's 1-Click.
 

Jamba Juice launches "Feel good" integrated effort

Hoping to add a little joy to consumers' lives during the recession, Jamba Juice debuted the "Fall feel good moments" campaign on October 5. The integrated initiative ties to the brand's core message of "making people feel good" by giving them vouchers for various services, including coupons for products, tickets for subway rides and an umbrella for a rainy day.
 

Havas Digital to use Omniture platform for search marketing efforts

Havas Digital will roll out Omniture's SearchCenter platform for Fortune 500 clients of its agencies: Media Contacts, Lattitud and iGlue, due to a partnership the companies announced on October 7. The agency will use Omniture's platform to manage clients' paid search advertising spending and to integrate search campaigns with online and offline marketing initiatives, according to a statement from the two companies.
 

UPS e-mail marketing effort promotes carbon offset initiative

UPS is using an e-mail marketing effort to promote an initiative to offset carbon dioxide emissions generated by the transport of packages. The shipping company is targeting environmentally conscious consumers and businesses with the campaign, which launched October 6. UPS began offering some US shippers the opportunity to pay a small fee to offset the environmental impact of their shipments this week.
 

Reynolds DeWalt acquires RiverView to boost direct mail capabilities

Reynolds DeWalt acquired RiverView Marketing Consultants, a direct marketing services company, effective October 5. Reynolds DeWalt, a multichannel agency, made the acquisition to boost its direct mailing capabilities, particularly in database management and analytics services for mail campaigns, in which RiverView specialized.
