FTC ready to act on car warranty robocalls

The Federal Trade Commission is close to taking legal action against companies responsible for the thousands of computerized car warranty calls reaching consumers nationwide, according to a letter from the agency chairman to Sen. Charles Schumer.
 

IAB releases first official click measurement guidelines

The Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) announced the release today of the first official click measurement guidelines, which are meant to help the online advertising industry combat click fraud. The guidelines were agreed upon by key industry leaders to help ensure that advertisers only pay for legitimate clicks.
 

US Navy, Campell-Ewald renew contract

The US Navy has renewed its relationship with agency Campbell-Ewald for advertising and marketing communications around recruitment following a mandatory rebid. Campbell-Ewald first won the account in 2000 with agency partners Accentmarketing and Global Hue Partners, meeting monthly recruiting goals in the ensuing eight-year period.
 

Metro International divests US dailies

The US operations of Metro International SA, publisher of free dailies, have been sold to former Metro CEO Pelle Tornberg. Metro International, which cited loss of revenue in the US division as a reason for the sale, is taking a loss of $2 million on the sale, the AP reported.
 

New Google Search Options offers real-time results

Google went live with several new user-friendly search products today, including Google Search Options, which allows users to slice and dice their universal search results by such variables as recency, genre and timeline. Some are already musing that Google Search Options can be viewed a Google response to Twitter, though Google concentrated solely on the idea that the company is addressing the entire problem of how users can get exactly what they want.
 

Good Housekeeping upping trim size, trimming rate base

Amid a flurry of design changes and anniversary celebrations, Hearst Corp.'s Good Housekeeping magazine is trimming its rate base from 4.6 million to 4.3 million and raising its cover price. Trimming the rate base is expected to help the publisher do away with low-performing newsstand locations and offers that produce low renewals.
 

Edith Roman wins Hearst Business Media Physician's database

Edith Roman has won list management responsibilities for the Hearst Business Media Physician's Postal and E-mail Database. The list, which includes 775,785 postal addresses and 863,000 e-mail addresses, is new to the market.
